I was watching the PBS Newshour last night and there was a report on technologies' impact on teens. Two different "experts"commented on the addictive nature of technology and how we as humans aren't really able to multi-task flawlessly - due to our limited brain capabilities. In fact one expert said that essentially we can only do one thing at a time really well. He stated that when we multi-task we are essentially dividing up our limited brain power and it less effective than focusing and following through with one or a few limited tasks. for more info see the report at: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/science/jan-june11/digitalbrain_01-05.html

It doesn't take a perfect person, whatever that is, to make a great one. You have a wonderful idea here and your honesty and good will are incredibly inspirational. I'm a teacher in Canada, one of the underemployed who works for a low wage for a non-profit. I struggle with money, but also hope, as I see people falling down the rabbit hole of capitalism, and not helping each other enough.

I want to offer you my warmest congratulations on We Have Time to Help and tell you that I'm inspired by you and it.

Thank you for being a great, not a perfect, person!

Hi Seth,
I am an intern for C-Span's Book TV department, and we met at the Arianna Huffington book party. I am very touched by this post and find you to be an inspirational person. I think writing honestly helps us to develop as people because the better we know ourselves, the easier it is to improve. I would love to hear from you and wish you all the best.

I love what you are doing. And I can identify with both sides of the coin. I need help. And I want to help. 2 years ago my 32 year old son and only child died. I loved him to death, but somehow cannnot follow him to where he has gone. 6 months before that my dad died, so that was really the only person who might have been able to comfort me. I don't have any other close family. A year after my son died I had to close down my internet startup that I'd put all of my passion and money into, and where my son had worked with me for the last 2 years of his life. Then the income protection insurance policy I'd paid so much for didn't cover me so have no income and no savings. It has been such an insanely sad and lonely couple of years. Each month I do not know how I will pay my rent. I started a secret restaurant in my house so I can do what I love, cook and hostess dinner parties. This way other people pay for what I would be doing anyway. I am now coaching people on their businesses, and if they don't have money I still coach them because I love to help and it makes me feel good. I also started this website: www.bruisedandbattered.com to give some inspiration to people who are trying to bounce back from life's temporary defeats.

I've said all of that because I know you are right to be doing what you are doing. I want to help. I live in London (UK) and have decided to help people with cancer find their way, a kind of advocacy. I babysit. Anyway, I have a ton of time and energy to help, and tons of skills... Please let me know if there is any way I can help you.

Seth and Michelle, I am so proud of you guys. What a wonderful thing you have started! I'm just getting caught up on my blog reading, and saw your mention about Arianna Huffington including your group in her book over on your birding blog. Congratulations! Arianna was on the Daily Show very recently, and during her interview with Jon Stewart, she mentioned your organization specifically by name. Way to go! May your quest to spread hope go forward and touch many lives. Hugs to you both! -Heather (of the Hills)
